“The Standards” perform for Haywood County
students

Haywood County students were brought to their feet by a singing group that
visited most schools on September 10 and 11 and presented a concert at College
Hill Thursday night. “The Standards,” a five-member group of brothers who have
been harmonizing together since they were young, made a return to Haywood County
to bring their music and message to the students after Interim Director of
Schools Doris Battle featured them at the opening in-service for teachers and
administrators in August.
The critically acclaimed group offer non-stop energetic vocal performances
packed with choreography, comedy and audience interaction. Members Morgan,
Nathan, Jordon, Nicholas and Quinn Williams sing a cappella without instruments,
and bring a drug-awareness message to the students.

While performances in the schools electrified the students, the concert at
College Hill brought the music lovers to the front of the stage for a close-up
view of the electrifying group. Parents and other community members joined many
of the students who wanted to see the group again at the College Hill concert.
They selected their name, “The Standards,” because their musical selections
are considered “standards” that everyone has heard. The result is an exciting
program that speaks to all generations and cultures of music lovers.
Contributing to the expenses of the concerts in several schools was the
Brownsville-Haywood County Arts Council through its Arts in Education program. |
