Mary Hood, Executive Director of Special Services
Superintendent of Haywood County Schools Marlon King announced last week that Mary Hood, who has been serving as Director of Alternative Education, as been promoted to the Executive Cabinet as Executive Director of Special Services. She will be responsible for supervising the Special Education Department, the Haywood County Multiple Disabilities Center, the Alternative School and Adult Basic Education. This change will occur on July 1.
Ms. Hood is a Haywood High School graduate and holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education from Tennessee State University. She also attended the University of Memphis, and later earned a Master’s of Science Degree in Administration and Supervision from Trevecca Nazarene College. Her teaching career began in 1975 as a Special Education Resource Teacher. In 1985 she moved to the district office as an Educational Diagnostician and served in that capacity for five years. She became Director of Special Education in 1990, and also served as Principal of the Haywood County Multiple Disabilities Class. She begins her Director of Alternative Education position in the 2009-2010 school year.
Superintendent King stated, “Ms. Hood has vast knowledge and experience in working with exceptional children. This experience, mingled with her passion and dedication for all children, makes Ms. Hood the perfect choice for the position of Executive Director of the Special Services Department.”
