RESOLUTION AND PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, the Haywood County Board of Education pauses to recognize the
extraordinary services rendered by George R. Chapman, as an Educator, as a
Coach, and as Director of Schools; and
WHEREAS, George R. Chapman has been involved in the Haywood County
educational system for over 39 years; and
WHEREAS, George R. Chapman was a math teacher attaining Career Ladder III,
was head football coach for the Haywood County High School Tomcats from 1986 to
1992, with a record of 57 wins and only 17 losses, was Assistant Superintendent
of Education from 1993 to 2000 and was Director of Schools from 2000 to the
present; and
WHEREAS, he was Southwest District Superintendent of the Year for the years
2003, 2006, and 2008 of the Tennessee Organization of School Superintendents and
was on their Board of Directors for the years 2005 through 2008 and was
President-elect for the year 2007-2008; and
WHEREAS, he also received the TSSAA A. F. Bridges Award for School System
Administrator of the Year in Athletic District#8 for 2001, and was appointed to
the Tennessee State Textbook Commission by the Governor of the State of
Tennessee for the years 2005-2007, and was the representative from the Southwest
District on the Superintendent Study Council Executive Committee 2006-2008; and
WHEREAS, Haywood County Schools achieved Adequate Yearly Progress goals for
the years 2005, 2006, and 2007 under his leadership; and
WHEREAS, the above reflects only a small portion of his commitment and
dedication to make the Haywood County School System better each and every year.
NOW THEREFORE, in recognition of his outstanding leadership and dedication,
the Haywood County Board of Education deems it an honor and a privilege to
present George R. Chapman with this Resolution and Proclamation for his
outstanding service, not only to the Haywood County School System, but also to
this community.
NOW THEREFORE, this Haywood County Board of Education by and through its
Chairperson, Patricia Gruenewald, would hereby like to thank and recognize
George R. Chapman for his many years of unselfish and dedicated commitment to
the Haywood County School System and the Haywood County Board of Education, and
the Board does hereby wish the very best for our Director of Schools and our
friend, and wish him much happiness, good health, and all the success of the
future. Thank you.
