School board approves new organizational chart

For their January mid-month meeting, Superintendent Marlon King and School Board members ate lunch at Haywood High School on Tuesday. Joining them for a pork tenderloin meal were members of the HHS “Tomcat Voice.” The meal was prepared for the group by Career and Technical Teacher Pam Diebold’s culinary arts class.

Superintendent of Schools Marlon King held a called school board meeting Tuesday, January 27, to get approval for his Accountability and Organizational Flow Chart. He received unanimous approval from board members and released the chart to the public.

Most of the job titles at the Central Office have been changed, and Superintendent King said that he will begin the hiring process immediately for all jobs except two, which are new. The candidates chosen for the two new positions, School Chancellor for Secondary Education and School-Community Relations Ambassador, “… will begin July 1 and will work voluntarily to ensure a smooth transition.”

“I’m searching for the best candidates for all jobs, and they will be offered the position immediately,” Superintendent King said.

Reporting directly to Superintendent King will be the School and Community Relations Ambassador, the Executive Director of Federal Programs and Exceptional Children, the Chief Financial Officer, the Deputy Superintendent of Curriculum and Accountability, the School Chancellor for Secondary Education (grades 7-12 emphasis), Chief Operations Officer, and the Executive Director of Human Resources.

The Director of Food Services and Coordinator of School Health will report to the Chief Financial Officer. Reporting directly to the Deputy Superintendent will be the Instructional Specialists for Elementary Education, Technology, and Teacher Quality and Accountability. Reporting to the Chief Operations Officer will be the Information Specialist – Technology, the Attendance/Pupil Services, the Maintenance and Transportation Supervisors. The Instructional Specialist for Special Education, the Psychologist Diagnostician, the School Nurse and the Parent Involvement Coordinator will all report to the Executive Director of Federal Programs and Exceptional Children.

The next regularly scheduled Haywood County School Board meeting will be held on Tuesday, February 10, at 6 p.m.
