Toni Eubanks named Educator of the Year
Toni Eubanks
At the annual Brownsville-Haywood County Chamber of Commerce Banquet on
October 22, among others in the community who were honored, Toni Eubanks was
selected as Educator of the Year.
On the nomination form, Mrs. Eubanks’ performance as an educator was noted as
being “outstanding” regardless of the level of education she taught. She has
taught accelerated classes as well as educationally challenged students.
She taught in second- and third-grade classrooms for 20 years. In 2005,
Haywood County received a grant to improve technology in the school system, and
Mrs. Eubanks was selected to instruct the teachers in the system’s new
technology. In 2007, she became the Haywood County Schools Director of
Technology, and in February 2009, was appointed to the position of Executive
Director for Human Resources by Superintendent Marlin King.
When Superintendent King took the reins of the school system, one of his
goals was to reduce the number of teachers on waiver permits. Mrs. Eubanks has
hired 43 new teachers and in the system, there is no teacher on waivers or
permits. “Reaching this goal of total teacher certification is a great step
forward in providing all students a quality education,” her nominator said.
