HCS holds GED graduation exercises


Thirty-one students in the Haywood County Schools Adult Education
Program earned general education diplomas in June, and eleven of them
participated in the GED graduation exercises on June 15 at Haywood High School.
Greeting guests and students to the ceremony was Mary C. Hood,
Director of Adult Education. Speakers at the ceremonies were Haywood County
Schools Superintendent Marlon King, Haywood County Mayor Franklin Smith, Haywood
County Sheriff Melvin Bond, and Haywood County School Board Chairman Harold
Garrett.

Entertaining at the event was Desiree Russell, who had the
highest GED score in the Class of 2010. She sang “His Eye is on the Sparrow.”
Other special guests were school board members
Robbie Jarrett-King and Pearlie Hess, Debbie Sterbinsky, representing Stanton
Mayor Allan Sterbinsky, and Art Garrett, School and Community Relations
Ambassador. Vickie Morris-Stoots is the
counselor/recruiter for the program, and teachers are Kay Gibbs, Ann Cannon,
Bennie Mae Waller, Audrey Blue and Kay Cunningham.
