Freedom Shrine in
place at HHS

Members of
the Brownsville Exchange Club, local dignitaries, and members of
the Haywood High School staff gathered recently at Haywood High
School for the formal dedication of the Freedom Shrine.
Accepting on behalf of Haywood High was Principal Robert
Mitchell.
The Freedom Shrine, donated by the
Brownsville Exchange Club, has been permanently installed in the
library of Haywood High School.
The Freedom Shrine is a permanently mounted collection of 30 of
the most important and historic American documents, including
the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution of the United
States, and the Gettysburg address. Nationwide, the Exchange
Club’s goal is to see a Freedom Shrine installed in every junior
and senior high school in the nation. Local Exchange Club
members have expressed the desire to install a Freedom shrine in
every school in Haywood County.
Developed by the National Exchange Club, the Freedom Shrine
originated from the Freedom Train that toured the USA in 1947
carrying an exhibit of historic documents. Painstakingly
researched to guarantee absolute authenticity, the 28 historical
American documents that comprise the Shrine were carefully
chosen to exemplify the beginnings of our nation and those
subsequent turning points of importance that shaped our national
character.
The Shrine is a beneficial
community relations project of the Exchange Club. Members
solicit help from numerous businesses, industries, and private
individuals to help them provide Freedom Shrine documents to
schools.
