State of the Schools Celebration a success

Haywood County Schools employees, 500 strong, convened in the Haywood High
School gymnasium Wednesday morning to hear Superintendent Marlon King’s State of
the Schools address and set the spirit for the coming school year. He praised
the staff for their work after reporting that the system is in “Good Standing,”
according to the AYP results from the Tennessee Department of Education.

Superintendent King recognized everyone for their service to the schools and the
county’s children, and also introduced teachers who are returning to the system
or have a connection to Haywood County. Of the total 39 teachers hired this
year, 18 are either from Brownsville and taught in other systems, completed
college and came home to teach or came back to teach in the system after leaving
to teach elsewhere.

Dr. Montrel Greene gave a motivational presentation with the message: “Teamwork
Makes the Dream Work.”
Thirty Brownsville businesses and service organizations participated in the
celebration with a business fair, and many donated door prizes to the school
employees.
Teachers have been in school since Monday, August 3, and students started August
10.
