Schools prepare for August opening Administrators
and other faculty and staff are using their summer break to prepare for the
opening of school on August 3. Faculty and staff will have in-service from
August 3 through August 7, and the first day of classes for students will be
August 10. August 10 will be a full day for students.
With a number of changes in the administrative positions, programs, and
initiatives, new innovations and with summer clean-up and maintenance in the
buildings, the 2009-2010 school year will begin a new era in Haywood County
Schools. Serving as leaders in each of the schools are:
Anderson Early Childhood Center – Jim Frazier, Principal; Cindy Smith,
Assistant Principal
Haywood Elementary – Tracy Riddle, Principal; Stephen May, Assistant
Principal
East Side Elementary – Opal Hay, Principal; Rita Matheny, Assistant
Principal; and Linda Norvell, Math Interventionist
Sunny Hill Elementary – Mary Colling, Principal; Sandra Humphreys,
Assistant Principal and Anita Matthews, Math Interventionist
Haywood Junior High – Dorothy Bond, Principal; Jackie Whitten,
Assistant Principal
Haywood High School – Robert Mitchell, Principal; Yvette Blue,
Assistant Principal; and Larry Charles, Assistant Principal
Haywood Career and Technical – Director, Michelle Tillman
Alternative Learning Center – Director, Mary Hood (The Alternative Learning
Center includes Alternative School, the Justice Academy, the Transition Class
and Adult Basic Education.)
Other new in-school positions include:
Instructional Facilitator, Anderson and East Side – Carolyn Caldwell
Instructional Facilitator, Haywood Elementary and Sunny Hill –
Barbara Garrett
In addition, Kendall Dancy will serve as the school system’s Parent/Family
Involvement Facilitator. His duties will include bringing families as partners
into the schools, assisting in making the schools a more family-friendly
climate, doing home and community visits, encouraging teachers and staff members
to develop strong partnerships with families, and engaging more families in
school activities.
“I am proud of the strong efforts of our school administrators in preparing
the schools for our students,” Superintendent Marlon King said. “Parents and
students will see many positive changes in the schools as they return for the
2009-2010 school year. We are excited to see all of these positive changes in
the schools.”
