TSSAA congratulates HHS on good sportsmanship
Haywood County Schools develops rules for football stadium

Haywood County Schools Superintendent Marlon King recently received a letter from the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association (TSSAA) congratulating Haywood High School for receiving no unsportsmanlike conduct penalties during the 2008-2009 sports year.

Mr. King and Jim Frazier, Athletic Director, congratulated the coaches and the student team members. “In our society, this is quite an accomplishment, and we are proud of our sports teams and their leaders.”

“We are proud of our athletes and that they have represented our schools and community so well,” Mr. King said. “Therefore, we want to honor them and the community by showing our respect and good conduct as spectators.”

Mr. King and his staff, in response to multiple requests from the community, developed a set of rules for the Tomcat Football Stadium: Appropriate dress is required. Spectators must be seated. Do not block entrances or exits. Conduct yourselves as ladies and gentlemen. Good sportsmanship is expected. No alcohol or tobacco products are allowed.

These rules will be posted at the stadium and went into effect Friday night, August 21, for the first home game against Jackson Central-Merry. The Haywood County Sheriff’s Department is handling security for the games this year.

“The football game on Friday night was a family-friendly atmosphere. We want to provide safe entertainment for Haywood County families,” Mr. King said. “I want to personally thank the wonderful officers from the Haywood County Sheriff’s Department. These officers worked diligently to provide a safe environment for our students and families.”
