Community members and businesses adopt new teachers

New teachers in the Haywood County School System this year gathered in August
for a lunch hosted by the HCEA.
Haywood County Schools Director of Human Resources Toni Eubanks announced
recently that members of the community and businesses have joined the school
system in welcoming the new teachers this year. Through the new “Adopt a
Teacher” program, new teachers are receiving a little extra attention and
support to show them that the community supports its school system.
“Research shows that if new teachers are mentored, they are more likely to
remain in your school system,” Eubanks said. “Haywood County School teachers all
have mentors within their schools, but what a unique experience for the
community to become involved with these new teachers! The idea sparked interest
in many local businesses, church groups, and community members,” she added. “The
people who adopt the teachers send them cards of encouragement, small gifts, and
they pray for them throughout the school year.”
Businesses participating are Insouth Bank, First State Bank, Curves, Haywood
Law Firm, Richards-Cummins Real Estate, and Jim McAdams State Farm. Individuals
who are showing their support for the new teachers are Emily Carpenter, Carolyn
Flagg, Blanche King, Andrea Smothers, Robbie Jarrett-King, Sara Beth Banks,
Michelle Smith, Lisa Carlton, Ashley Jackson, Glenda Pettigrew, Sonya
Outlaw-Clark, Katherine Baggett, Martha Lyle Ford, Monica Clark, Michael Banks,
Brooke Evans, and Betsy Reid. And lastly, Fishes and Loaves Sunday School Class
of Union Grove UMC is sponsoring a new teacher.
“We still have several teachers who need to be adopted,” Eubanks said. “If
anyone is interested in adopting a teacher, please contact me at eubankst@k12tn.net
or call the school central office at 772-9613.
