Important Information

It is very important as we plan for next year to
have an accurate count of Pre-kindergarten and Kindergarten
students. We try to have appropriate staff in place based on the
number of students enrolled. Registration will begin Saturday,
April 25, from 9 a.m. to noon. If you know someone who has
school-aged children who are new to the area, please let them
know how important it is to register their children at Anderson
Early Childhood Center.
Munsey’s artwork wins contest

Olivia Munsey from April Eddings’ class at
Anderson won the Easter coloring contest sponsored by Cash
Express.
Easter Egg Hunt Extraordinaire

Lots of fun during the Easter season is an Easter
Egg Hunt, and the children at Anderson thoroughly enjoyed
theirs. Luke Pittman from Krista Parker’s preschool class and
Darnesha Leavy from Judy Deming’s kindergarten class each won an
Easter basket provided by Superintendent of Schools Marlon King
and his hospitality committee.

Anderson teacher Mrs. Connie Allen took the
students from her class to her house for an Easter egg hunt and
party before the holiday. A good time was had by all!

More Easter Egg hunting …

Students in Wendy Hopper’s class at Anderson
also enjoyed an East Egg Hunt at Volunteer Park. They had a
great time finding lots of bright-colored eggs that held
surprises.

Students learn about plants

Students in Laurel Garrett’s room at Anderson are
learning about how plants grow and about the main parts of a
plant. As part of the project, they planted marigold plants.

Ladybugs and butterflies alive at Anderson

Miss Allison Clinton-Ferrell’s students at Anderson
have been learning about the life cycles of ladybugs and
butterflies. “We have ladybug and butterfly habitats in our
classroom and have been learning about the different steps of
each of the insects’ life cycles,” she said.

The class has been ordering the different stages of
the life cycle using ladybug and butterfly stamps and
manipulatives displaying each stage of the life cycle, and they
have been reading numerous books about each insect, with one of
their favorites, of course, being “The Very Hungry Caterpillar
by Eric Carle.”

They also have observation journals in each life
cycle center to keep tract of each stage of the life cycles. The
students have also learned about the good things that ladybugs
and butterflies do for our plants and our environment.

“The ladybugs hatched first, and they are now
laying new ladybug eggs! All
10 of our butterflies are in their cocoons right now, and we are
excitedly awaiting their arrival,” Mrs. Clinton-Ferrell said.
“We have special food for our insects while they are in our
classroom, but we will soon release them outside to be with
their other ladybug and butterfly friends. We will be sad to see
them go!”
“Handle Me With Care”

Beth Wilson, local Carl Perkins Center for the
Prevention of Child Abuse Director, brought “Handle Me With
Care" tattoos for the students at Anderson in honor of Child
Abuse Prevention Month. Shown in the picture are students from
Sami Jo Hancock’s preschool class.
HHS Show Choir entertains Anderson students

Anderson students were thrilled with a performance
by members of the Haywood High School Show Choir on April 6. The
choir gave performances in several of the local schools on
Monday, and have performed at many events in the community
throughout the school year. They are directed by HHS choir
teacher Michelle Tillman.
