Hands-on learning in art at Anderson

The students at Anderson Early Childhood Center had
hands-on learning with clay recently. Their art teacher, Beth Ann
Smith, along with many parents and volunteers, helped the students
have a positive experience making pinch pots and fish. Pre-school
students made their pinch pots from terra cotta clay and used
pencils to draw designs onto the pots. Kindergarten students made
their fish sculptures from white clay and finished them with
underglazes. The pottery will be glazed and fired in a kiln and
put on display in the annual art exhibit. The art exhibit will be
held at Anderson from April 2 through April 30.
Anderson students learn from public servants

Students in Mrs. Angela Yoder’s preschool class
recently enjoyed visits from members of the Brownsville Fire and
Police departments. For letter “F” (f) week, the firemen shared
fire safety tips and how important it is that the students not
fear firemen in case they need to be rescued. For the letter “C”
(c), Lieutenant Willis, father of one of Mrs. Yoder’s students,
shared how cops strive to keep our community safe. They also
enjoyed getting behind the steering wheel of a cop car.

Anderson students learn about Black History

The students in Ms. Tiffany
Newbill’s computer classes at Anderson have been learning about
Black History for the entire month of February. They have been
learning about important people and events ranging from Dr. Carter
G. Woodson (the founder of Black History Month) to President
Barack Obama. Ms. Tiffany has collected more than 175 articles,
photographs and posters during her 12 years of teaching.
