Sharing an accomplishment

Anderson Principal Mr. Jim Frazier enjoys a minute with a
student who reads to him from her “National Geographic Young Explorers”
magazine. She is proud to be able to come to his office to read, and he is
proud of her accomplishments. This is what it’s all about!!
Anderson students enjoy St. Patrick’s Day

Anderson students have fun wearing green on St. Patrick’s Day. They learned
about the history of St. Patrick’s Day and also about the importance of
recycling, or "going green." Many classes read books about recycling, and
others made things out of recycled items. What a fun way to learn!!
Anderson students “Go Green”

Students in Mrs. Jessie Warren’s class at Anderson used recycled magazine pages
that they used to make into boats and bracelets, to make “GO
GREEN...RECYCLE” signs and St. Patrick’s Day, March 17.
Students learn about the world

In honor of Dr. Seuss’ birthday, one of the stories the Kindergarten students
had recently read was, “If You Could Go to Antarctica.” Along with reading
the story, students learned about the continents and the oceans. George
Stokely, a student in Mrs. Nicole Henderson’s class, brought his dad to sing
about Antarctica, the oceans, and the continents with his class and with
Mrs. Becky Stokely’s class. What a fun way to learn!!
Happy reading at Anderson!

What an amazing, fun-filled day at Anderson on Friday, March 5th! Students
spent the day enjoying activities that were planned in honor of Dr. Seuss’s
Birthday. From beginning the day eating the famous “Green Eggs and Ham” to
spending the entire day with Dr. Seuss fun, Anderson students most
definitely made the most of this wonderful celebration … a celebration that
included a pie in the face for Miss Cindy and Mr. Jim!

Ms. Tanya Madere’s class made Oobleck (like playdough) after
reading “Bartholomew and the Oobleck.”

Mrs. Judy Deming’s class dressed up like foxes in socks to go
with their story.

Mrs. Julie Carver’s class “Hears a Who!” After reading
“Horton Hears a Who,” students enjoyed making their own clover with their
own tiny speck on it. Their imaginations ran wild as they pretended to talk
to the “who” characters living in “Who-ville” on their tiny speck!

After lunch, kindergarten students went to their fourth six
weeks awards pep rally. Along with the “Cat in the Hat,” their mascot Andy
gave high fives to students who make Kindergarten Kadet, Principal’s Club,
or received reading, math, language, handwriting, and other awards.

Here’s the winner of this six weeks’ Principal’s Club award.

Mrs. Robbie King
Anderson Early Childhood Center celebrated Black History Month in February by
having community leaders speak to the children about their backgrounds,
accomplishments, and how important it is for them to listen in class, become

Anderson celebrates Preschool Read Across Tennessee

Brownsville Mayor Webb Banks joined Anderson principals Jim Frazier and
Cindy Smith on the school’s Read Across Tennessee Celebration Day and
presented a proclamation from the city.

Mrs. Allison Ferrell’s class was the first to see Mr. Edward “Bubba”
Shirley’s train set which was displayed in the school’s gym.

Mrs. Laurel Garrett’s class posed with their conductor’s hats after riding
the Boogie Train.

Mrs. Leslie Phillips’ class created a train on their bulletin board made out
of goodies – cookies, candy and cereal – for the special celebration.
Administrators, faculty and staff members at Anderson Early Childhood Center on
Tuesday, March 2, held a Preschool Read Across Tennessee Celebration, first
by welcoming Mayor Webb Banks who read a proclamation for the celebration on
behalf of the City of Brownsville. This celebration, sponsored by Tennessee
Governor Phil Bredesen, is in coordination with the Tennessee Early
Childhood Alliance. The theme this year was “The Little Engine that Could.”

Students, who each received a conductor’s hat, enjoyed several jumpers and
seeing Mr. Edward “Bubba” Shirley’s train set in the school’s gymnasium,
then they took turns riding in the “Boogie” Train brought in for the special
celebration. Preschool Advisory Committee members also came and read “The
Little Engine that Could” in the 12 pre-kindergarten classes.
