Anderson students “At the Hop”





Anderson Early Childhood Center students donned their finest
1950’s attire and put on a performance the packed house of
family and friends won’t soon forget at the school’s annual Sock
Hop on October 30. They danced to “At the Hop,” “Chicken Dance,”
“Tooty-Tah,” Freeze Dance,” “Macarena,” “Hands Up!,” “Cupid
Shuffle,” Hokey Pokey,” “Bunny Hop,” and “Lets Twist Again” for
a very appreciative crowd.
Anderson observed Breast Cancer Awareness Month on October26.

Mrs. Allison Harvey visited Mrs. Nicole
Henderson’s class and talked about having breast cancer. They
enjoyed cookies decorated with the pink ribbon logo afterward.

Anderson faculty, staff and students appreciate their
custodians

Friday, October 23, was Custodian Appreciation
Day at Anderson. Each class made a page to go in a book that
expressed how they appreciate all Mr. and Mrs. Aleta Bradford
and Mr. Sammy Oldham do for us every day. The school also gave
them a gift certificate to Backyard Barbeque.

Anderson Early Childhood Center was represented at the Hatchie
Fall Fest this year with a booth selling Funnel Cakes, with the
help of expert cook Barry Phillips. Principal Jim Frazier and
Assistant Principal Cindy Smith and several teachers greeted
students and guests as they made the festival circle around the
Brownsville Court Square.
Anderson students create an “Alphabet” scarecrow
scene

1ST PLACE - CHILDREN DIVISION
Students at Anderson Early Childhood Center
pulled their talents together to create an “Alphabet” Scarecrow
scene to enter into the Hatchie Fall Fest Scarecrow Contest.
Each class took a letter of the alphabet and drew a picture of
something with that letter, giving everyone the opportunity to
participate in the school-wide project.
Anderson students enjoy 1st Book Jam


Anderson students enjoyed the first Book Jam
recently, courtesy of the partnership between the UT Extension
Service and Haywood County Schools. Three times a year students
receive a book at the special “Book Jams.” Guests were on hand
to read to the children, and then they went on a treasure hunt
this year to each select a book they can take home.

Sidewalk study …


Students in Mrs. Trudy Hughes’ class took to the
sidewalks for their studies. They drew letters and shapes on the
outdoor “chalkboards.”
Officer Watson talks about safety and behavior

Anderson students in Ms. Kelly Key’s class learned
about safety and good behavior from Officer James Watson of the
Brownsville Police Department when he visited the classroom. He
also told the students about being a policeman.

Students in Mrs. Allison Ferrell and Miss Callie
Adams’ classes at Anderson met several local fireman recently
when they visited the schools, and enjoyed learning about what
they do and inspecting their trucks.

Students in Mrs. Jessie Warren’s class at
Anderson enjoyed time in their reading circles with her and with
Mrs. Angela Palmer helping them learn to read.

School Board members visit Anderson



Members of the Haywood County School board visited
Anderson on September 22. Some of the students shared some of
the things they have been working on with the guests. Each
school hosts a mid-month luncheon throughout the school year for
school board members.
