Dr. Oscar Love to serve on state committee
Dr.
Oscar Love, who is the School Chancellor for Secondary Education for Haywood
County Schools, has been chosen to serve on the state 2009-2010 Tennessee
Principal of the Year Interview Committee. He was invited to serve based on his
past experience in the Principal of the Year selection process. He was one of
eight state finalists for the award in 2008-2009, representing the
Memphis/Shelby County Field Service Region.
“He (Dr. Love) embodies the characteristics that model superior educational
leadership,” said Johnny Crow, Director of Teacher Leadership for the Tennessee
Department of Education, who invited Dr. Love to participate on the committee.
Before coming to Haywood County, Dr. Love served as principal of Raleigh-Egypt
High School in Memphis for seven years. He has worked in education and training
for 35 years. His experience includes directing training assessment and
curriculum development for Naval Technical Training. Dr. Love has also served as
Professor at Jackson State University and the University of Memphis. He holds a
Bachelor of Science Degree in Economics and Geography from Jackson State
University in Jackson, Mississippi, earned his Master’s Degree from Mississippi
State University, and earned his PhD in Higher Education and Administration with
an emphasis in labor relations from Kansas State University.
“Haywood County Schools is fortunate to have an educator with Dr. Love’s vast
range of experience as part of our team,” Superintendent Marlon King said. “Dr.
Love is a vital asset to our secondary program and brings experience and
knowledge to assist at Haywood Junior High School and Haywood High School.”
In his Haywood Schools position as School Chancellor for Secondary Education,
Dr. Love will provide leadership in the implementation of a quality
instructional program for students in grades 7-12 while also providing guidance
in secondary professional development and school improvement efforts.
