Welcome to a new year
It is my pleasure to welcome all Haywood County students to
the 2008-2009 school year. As interim director, I realize the
great responsibility our school system has in shaping the
lives of the children. We hope all students have settled into
their classrooms and are looking forward to a great school
year.
As you may have heard, our system made AYP during the last
school year, and we are proud of the administrators, teachers
and students for their hard work. This is an ongoing challenge
for us all, and you should know that our administrators are
ever vigilant in doing what needs to be done to continue this
trend in our schools. I have visited all the schools this
year and always enjoy seeing all the children at work and at
play. It’s part of our job to provide not only academic
training in our schools but also lessons in good behavior,
social interaction, the arts, music, and athletics. Each
school is providing healthy food choices and exercise
opportunities for the students to promote a healthier
lifestyle and opportunities to learn through hands-on
experiences in many different areas. We want our schools to be
a well-rounded learning experience for all children.
So, to all the students and their families, let’s join
together for another year to give our children an exceptional
educational experience. It’s the most important thing we can
do for them and for our community.

Administrative Professionals Week

East Side Elementary Principal
Tammie Canada speaks for her faculty and staff when she salutes
her Administrative Professionals, Myoushi Cunningham and Delores
Ogden (not pictured), during this special week.
Honor Roll students enjoy Diamond
Jaxx game

First and second honor roll students at East Side Elementary were
invited to attend the Diamond Jaxx game Friday, April 20, in
Jackson. According to East Side Principal Tammie Canada, there was
a large crowd of students and their families who attended.
Students were allowed to go onto the field and give their names
and the name of their school. The night’s finale was a fireworks
display.
East Side students enjoy TCAP
celebration

East Side students spent April 20 enjoying a special celebration
their principal, Mrs. Tammie Canada, planned for them to celebrate
them “doing their best” on TCAP tests the four days before. Among
their activities were a romp, climb and slide on this fun obstacle
course.
Snacks and treats for East Side
Students

Alan Callery with InSouth Bank in
Brownsville paid a visit to Minnie Reed’s third-grade class at
East Side and presented the class with treats and goodies in
preparation for Terra Nova (T-Cap) testing. The tests will be
given at all Haywood County elementary schools April 16-19. The
gesture by InSouth served as an opportunity to encourage students
while they are preparing for the tests. Tammie Canada, principal,
was also on hand for the presentation.
