Zoo animals delight birthday crowd

On Thursday, April 9, there was a special birthday
celebration for Dalton LeFave - a third grader in Dr. Amy
Harris’ class.

His parents arranged for zoo animals to visit the
class via the Wildlife
on Wheels (WOW) program from the Memphis Zoo. Among the visiting
zoo friends were an armadillo, a snake, a hedgehog, and a VERY
LARGE porcupine!!!!

The students learned interesting facts about the
animals while they were allowed to pet them.
ES holds Easter Egg Math Hunt

On Thursday, April 9, East Side held an Easter Egg
MATH Hunt. Each class was given a number which translated into a
math answer. Hand-written on over 2,000 eggs were math problems.
Each student in each class had to find three eggs that
individually equaled the answer for their class. This was a
great way to review math facts in preparation for the TCAP test
coming soon.

Classes were sent out in 45-minute intervals to 4
different locations on
campus. Each area was supervised by a member of the Winfield
Mason Lodge #52. According to Principal Tammie Canada, students
enjoyed themselves tremendously.

Members of the Winfield Mason Lodge #52
volunteering their time for the event were: Charles Blue,
Worship Master; John Reed, Senior Warden; Welton Mann, Chaplain;
Rody Walker, Marshall; Rev. O.G. Stewart, Treasurer; and members
Bro. Terrance Swift and Bro. Terrell Walker.

Prior to the event, Lodge members stuffed over half
of the eggs with candy
in preparation for this day. The lodge will also make a monetary
contribution to East Side to share the cost of the eggs and the
candy.
