Mrs. Hay thanks volunteers

Ms. Hay awards the proctors for their help during TCAP week. These stakeholders volunteered their time to help the teachers administer the assessment. She gives them certificates in honor of their support and commitment to the children in our community.
 

East Side students are “super” with vocabulary words

East Side students had “super” help with their power words this week from two “super” third graders. Ellie Riddle and Alex Sceals in Ms. Hardin’s class dressed the part to motivate the third and fourth graders during morning meeting to make their vocabulary more powerful using the words torrential and clandestine.


 

 

ES 5K Walk/Run a success

ES held their annual 5k Walk/Run on Tuesday, April 27, at College Hill. The event had been re-scheduled because of inclement weather, but that didn't keep these students from participating in the marathon. Some walked and ran, and others road bikes. Mrs. Samantha Sammons had the class with the most participants, and they won a prize. Pictured are the top winners and the student who illustrated the marathon's signature T-shirt. She won the art contest for the event.
 

Teen Advisors visit East Side

 

On Tuesday, April 27, several members of the Haywood High School Teen Advisors visited the fourth graders at East Side Elementary. They played games in order to discuss ways to have a successful transition to Sunny Hill. They discussed topics such as bullying and other social issues that could prevent students from having a successful year next year.
 

East Side paraprofessionals are “Queens for the Day”

East Side Elementary administrators, faculty and staff recently honored their paraprofessionals as “Queens for the Day” with a “royal” ice cream sundae party.
 

CP Center supports students during TCAP

The Carl Perkins Center showed its support for the students during TCAP week. They brought brand new #2 pencils for the students to use to begin their testing day.
 

Thanks for your hard work!

ES administrators and teachers showed appreciation for their instructional support staff during morning meeting. The student body applauded these very important ladies, and they were treated to lunch at Brownsville Family Restaurant. The teachers also took over lunch duty to give them time off. They also enjoyed a cake to help celebrate their hard work and show their love and appreciation for all that they do to help make East Side a great place to learn. East Side teacher assistants are Mary Bufford, Shavonda Currie-Rogers, Betty Doyle, Mickie Duncan, Shirley Hines, Monica Johnson, Monica Sandy Meck, Arniece Perkins, Linda Rhodes, Yolanda Taylor, Ti-Anna Wiley and Darlene Young.
 

Do your best!

Mrs. Myoushi Cunningham, East Side secretary; Principal Opal Hay and Assistant Principal Rita Matheny at ES showed their support for the students to do their best to reach beyond AYP during TCAP week April 19-22.


Top sellers earn limo ride

On Wednesday, April 28, third and fourth graders at East Side enjoyed limo rides in a stretched Hummer. They went cruising around town and went to McDonald’s to eat ice cream. These students were awarded for selling 10 or more items during the spring fundraiser.

 

TCAP celebration gives students rewards

 

 

On Friday, April 23, East Side students enjoyed lots of fun in celebration of doing their best on TCAP during that week. They enjoyed bingo, snacks, video games, inflatable obstacles course, picnic lunches, and much more. The auxiliary teachers did a great job of planning an unforgettable experience for their hard work.
 

 

East Side students honor Earth Day

Students in Mrs. Amelia Morrison and Ms. Maria Hart's classes at East Side honored Earth Day by planting flowers at East Side. What a wonderful way to honor nature and the school!


 

East Side and Coordinated School Health announce annual 5K walk/run

The East Side School and Coordinated School Health Program invite everyone to come out and participate in their third annual 5K walk/run. The event will take place on Saturday, April 24. You can pre-register by contacting either East Side School, 772-1233, or Sharon Thornton at 772-9613 or thorntons@k12tn.net. Registration will begin at 8 a.m., the race at 9 a.m. and awards at 10 a.m. All students can enter for FREE! The cost is $12 pre-registered and $15 the day of the event. The first 75 paid adult participants will receive a T-shirt designed by one of the East Side students.
