Sarita Poston named East Side Teacher of the
Year

Sarita Poston
Teachers at East Side Elementary recently selected
third-grade teacher Sarita Poston as their Teacher of the Year.
“I have nine years of experience in the classroom,
but I’ve been teaching since I was a teenager,” she said. Ms.
Poston holds a bachelor of science and a master’s degree in
education from Union University.
“Although I’ve always had a love for children, I
originally started as a business administration major at UTM just
18 hours shy of completing my degree. My career was put on hold
after getting married and starting a family, but not my will to
return to school someday.
“After my children were older, my husband and I
decided that I would go back to school, but not to UTM since I
couldn’t leave my family. So I decided to go into education since
that was really what I wanted to do. I enrolled at Union
University and through hard work and a lot of sacrifices from my
entire family, I completed my degree in education.”
“Ms. Poston is one of our best teachers at East
Side,” Principal Tammie Canada said. “She serves as our
hospitality committee chairperson. She does a great job taking
care of staff members when a need arises. Ms. Poston is a team
player and is always there to volunteer or pitch in to help. I
greatly appreciate her and her hard working attitude.”
