Superintendent meets teacher certification goal

Haywood County Schools Director of Human Resources Toni Eubanks
When Superintendent of Schools Marlon King was selected to serve Haywood
County Schools, one of his goals was to reduce the number of teachers on permits
or waivers. According to the 2007 State Report Card, Haywood was tied at 14 with
another area county school district for having the most teachers who were not
fully credentialed.
King surpassed this goal, with the assistance and hard work of Director of
Human Resources Toni Eubanks, when he reported that no teachers on staff in the
Haywood County School System this year are on waivers or permits.
“We are so proud of Mrs. Eubanks’ efforts and to have a highly qualified
teaching staff to lead our children in Haywood County Schools,” Mr. King said.
“With her diligence, Mrs. Eubanks helped our system meet one of the important
goals we set for this system.”
The overall goal of the school system is to provide the best education for
the children in this county. One of the aspects of the Governor’s Three Star
Program, for which the city and county have earned recognition for many years,
is the quality of education and of the school system in the community.
“Reaching the goal of total teacher certification is just one step in making
sure that the city and county provide a quality education for students,”
Superintendent King said. “We are working hard throughout the system to make
changes and improvements to our educational system, and we know with the
expertise and dedication of our entire staff, we will see many other successes.
We are committed to making the Haywood County School System a drawing card for
the local recruitment of businesses and industries.”
