Visitors join us for Morning Meeting

It’s always a treat to have the school board members and Deputy
Superintendent Teresa Russell join us for our Morning Meeting at
Haywood Elementary. The time we spend together each morning
creates a bond that is cherished by all!

Santa visits Haywood Elementary

Santa came by on Wednesday to bring a special delivery gift to
Miss. Natalie Darnaby, adoptee of InSouth Bank. While he was in
the building, Santa also visited the cafeteria to make the
second check on his list to find out who is naughty and nice. It
is easy to see that the boys and girls at HES look up to Santa!
HES staff enjoys Christmas fare

The entire staff of HES enjoyed an hour of fellowship and food
Wednesday morning while the students enjoyed a movie and popcorn
with Mrs. Tracy, Mr. Stephen, and parents from the PTO. December
truly is the most wonderful time of the year!
Congrats, Miss Stacie!

Congratulations to Stacie Lefave, Haywood Elementary School's
Teacher of the Year. Stacie is a native of Brownsville and is in
her fifth year of teaching second grade at HES.
Ms. Oliphant enjoys visit from Santa

East Side third-grade teacher Tammy Oliphant, who has been adopted
by local business Curves, is pictured here accepting a gift from
Santa.
We Wish You a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Haywood Elementary voices sing at College Hill

Haywood Elementary School was well represented at “Christmas at
College Hill” on December 7. For over a decade the
Brownsville-Haywood County Arts Council has presented this gift
to the community on the first Monday evening in December. School
groups perform in the Ann Marks Performing Arts Center. After
their performance students can visit with Santa and receive a
gift from him, have their face painted, tour the Christmas
displays in the museum building and enjoyed cookies and drink.
HES music teacher Patricia Gaietto said, “It was a delight to
have Mr. Jacob Jenkins, my student teacher from Union
University, assist me in directing the students."
Haywood Elementary preparing float for Christmas

PTO parents and students are hard at work transforming a plain
farm trailer into a beautiful float. Now, no one said work can't
be fun and the looks on the faces show that everyone is having a
ball. Keep your eyes open for the finished product at the
Christmas Parade in Brownsville on December 5. Remember, Haywood
Elementary School, “Where Great Things Happen!”
HES students shine at Awards Program

Haywood Elementary School held its second awards programs for this
school year on Friday, November 20. “It was exciting to see such
a large turn-out for both programs. We are so thankful for the
support parents, grandparents, and friends exhibit for our
school,” said Principal Tracy Riddle.

Joining the administrators and faculty at the event was School
Board Vice-Chairman Mrs. Robbie Jarrett-King, who helped present
awards to the second-grade students in
the morning program. Mrs. Jean Wills, Instructional Specialist
for Elementary Education, was the guest presenter for the
first-grade program in the afternoon.
Students are recognized for academic accomplishments, character
development and attendance.

Mrs. Lisa Carlton, representing the Rotary Club, presented a
bicycle to a first-grade student who had perfect attendance for
the six weeks. Each six weeks the names of all of the students
who have perfect attendance are placed in a container and one
name is drawn out to determine the winner of the bicycle for
that six weeks. “Thank you to all the members of the Rotary Club
for your encouragement to our students,” Mrs. Riddle said.
It's all about the numbers for Miss Darnaby's happy class of
first graders!
