Spring Book Jam gives books to students

Friday, February 20, was Spring Book Jam at Haywood
Elementary. This twice-yearly event is sponsored by the U.T.
Extension office. Every student in the school selects a book that
they would like to own and takes that book home with them at the
end of the day. Volunteers from the high school read to the
children and share in their excitement. This year “Captain CLean
Hands” sent his helpers, Ms. Sharon Sparks and Ms. Tiffany Thomas
to speak to the children about the importance of washing your
hands to kill the many germs they encounter each day.
Milton wins art contest

Congratulations to Haywood Elementary student Dylan
Milton! Dylan’s picture was selected as the first-place winner for
all second grade entries submitted in the 2008-09 Bird Dog
Foundation Student Art Contest. Dylan will be honored at an awards
ceremony on March 28 at the National Bird Dog Museum in Grand
Junction, Tennessee. Dylan is the son of Chris and Jackie Milton
and created his picture in Ms. Mary Marcantel's art class at
Haywood Elementary.
“Singing Fireman” entertains students

Second-grade teachers, Mrs. Deck, Mrs. Evans. and Mrs. Philpot,
combined their classes recently when Mr. David Smith, our local
“singing fireman,” paid them a visit. The children were
enthusiastic in their reception to Mr. Smith. He talked about fire
safety and the proper use of the 911 emergency system with the
students. |
