Haywood Elementary students hard at work

All members of the faculty and staff at Haywood
Elementary school are working diligently to insure that our
students are prepared for the future. Students work independently
at their desks, one-on-one with teacher assistants, in small
groups with their teachers and together in small groups to claim
ownership of skills being taught.

Educators discuss RTI achievement

Mrs. Rita Matheny met with teachers recently to
share the progress that students participating in RTI have
achieved. RTI, or Response to Intervention, is a program designed
to identify specific areas of reading and math skills that
students may have difficulties with. Teacher assistants and
teachers work with students to strength skills in areas of
weakness. Progress is monitored closely to guarantee optimum
results for student success.
Students earn awards

Haywood Elementary students are rewarded at the end
of each six weeks at an awards program where their hard work and
successes are celebrated. Principal Jean Wills and her staff were
honored to have school board member Harold Garret present at the
last awards program to join the celebration and present awards to
the students.
Students enjoy a guest from “down under”

Miss Russell’s second grade class had a special
visitor recently from
“down under.” Mr. Nicholas Aroutsidis from Australia came and
spent time
with the class sharing about his homeland. The class had studied
about
Australia and were delighted when he shared pictures of his
country, a
boomerang, and Australian candy with the children.

Celebrating 100 days!

Can you believe we have been in school for 100 days
already? Many Haywood Elementary students worked on “100 Day”
projects at home with their families and brought the finished
projects in to share with classmates. Students enjoy looking at
what their peers have created as they travel through the hallways
each day.
