Haywood Park
staff visits Haywood Elementary

Haywood Park Hospital food
administrators visited Haywood Elementary School on Thursday,
March 19, to present a token of appreciation to the school's
food service staff for their service to the students in Haywood
County. The group's visit came during National School Breakfast
Week.
“Isn’t it wonderful that we live in
a town where everyone works together for the common good of it’s
citizens?” Principal Jean Wills said. “Thank you, Haywood Park,
for recognizing the hard work of our ‘cafeteria ladies.’ Thank
you from all of us at HES!”
Students enjoy Dr. Seuss activities

Elizabeth Lovell’s class at Haywood Elementary did everything
related to Dr. Seuss recently. “For reading, we discussed rhyme
and read various Dr. Seuss books,” Ms. Lovell said. Throughout
the books, the students located the rhyming words. For math,
they discussed patterns by creating “Cat in the Hat” hats as
well as making edible hat snacks. The students ended the day by
viewing “Horton Hears a Who!”

Dancers entertain HE students
Mona Lisa Lanier and the Rose Hill Dancers (from Jackson) were at
Haywood Elementary on Friday, February 27, to perform
traditional African American dances, as well as generational
songs dear to the African American community, in celebration of
Black History Month.

Students learn about technology for impairments

Second-grade students at Haywood Elementary enjoyed
visits from Jennifer Cunningham with the STAR center in Jackson
and Amy Cone with JCIL, also in Jackson. These ladies provided
enrichment to the students who had read about Helen Keller. The
guests explained how technology can improve and enhance the
lives of individuals with hearing and vision impairments in our
world today.
HES students earn awards for achievement

HES first grade-students were excited to have school board
member Mr. Alan Currie join them at their awards ceremony on
March 6. Mr. Currie handed out awards to some amazing
“characters” who had come to school that day dressed in honor of
“Read Me Week.” Also pictured is a student with Assistant
Principal Caldwell.
