Sunny Hill earns SACS approval

Sunny Hill Elementary recently completed a
five-year evaluation on
November 7 and 8 for the Southern Association of Colleges and
Schools.
A team made up of members from Crockett County and Lake County
came to evaluate the school.
The team was chaired by Mr. Joey Hassell, Lake
County Schools Superintendent. The SACS committee spent time
getting to know the school by interviewing principals, teachers,
paraprofessionals, and students, and visiting classrooms. The team
was chaired by Lake County Superintendent of Schools, Mr. Joey
Hassell.
“Sunny Hill is grateful to parents who were on our
committee, those who helped with the evalation process, as well as
student teams,” said Principal Dorothy Bond. Sunny Hill received a
positive rating and was accredited for the next five years.
And the answer is …

I.M.P.A.C.T. students at Sunny Hill have been
exploring the American Civil War during the first semester. The
culminating activity for this unit of study was a
student-designed, interactive Jeopardy game created on the
computer in Powerpoint. Students worked in teams of three or four
students. They gathered the information for the game from various
activities about the war. They researched and discussed the
political, social, and economic causes of the war.
After watching a film on the “Firing on Ft.
Sumter,” students listed and illustrated contrasts between the
North and South. In creating their games, each team selected five
Civil War categories and wrote five questions and answers for each
category. One of the big challenges was to remember to state the
questions in the form of a statement and the answers in the form
of a question. Each team created its own Powerpoint game complete
with custom animation and action buttons to move easily from the
game board to weighted questions and back to the game board again.
Competition was lively among teams as students
played each other’s games.
Sunny Hill students enjoy HHS Homecoming

Sunny Hill students recently attended the Haywood
High homecoming parade. They enjoyed catching candy thrown to them
by Principal Dorothy Bond, Assistant Principal Drayton Hawkins,
and parade marchers.
