Cookie dough a big hit with fundraisers

The Sunny Hill PTO sponsored a cookie dough sale
during March with proceeds going to purchase new playground
equipment. Top sellers were rewarded with cash.
The top-selling students and amounts they won are:
first place, Kennedi Dancy - $50; second place, Chardae Douglas
- $25; third place, Briana Coble - $15; fourth place, Vanterria
Tyus - $10; and fifth place, Kyle Sills - $5.
HJH cheerleaders for 2009 season chosen at Sunny
Hill
Five Sunny Hill girls were chosen on March 14 to
serve as Haywood Junior High football cheerleaders for the 2009
season: Mary-Will King, Alyssa Campbell, Abbey Morris, Mireya
Pulido and Dannon Eubanks.
Sunny Hill “speakers” win awards

Seventeen students participated in the Black
History Month Oratorical Contest at Sunny Hill School on
February 25. Winners were: Alecia Johnson, first place - $20;
Kayla Shaw, second place - $15; Nathan Yoder, third place - $10;
and Charity McGee, fourth place - $5. The girls had to recite
“Phenomenal Woman,” and the boys had to recite “Fear.”
Sunny Hill celebrates Black History month with
information and music
Black History month was observed throughout the
month of February at Sunny Hill School. Each morning students
read about famous African-Americans over the intercom. Students
also recited poems written by famous African-Americans during an
oratorical contest which was held on February 25. An elaborate
production of “Motown,” a celebration of African-American music,
was held on February 26. Faculty, staff, students, and members
of the community participated.

Sixth-grade student Alexia Davis sang an Etta James song A
Capella.

Gwen Brown, Margaret Young, Daphne Maclin, Quanita Blair appear
as Gladys Knight and the Pips.

Sunny Hill teacher Tim Seymoure sang as one of the Temptations.

Special Ed teacher Barbara Wellington portrayed Stevie Wonder.

Students appear as Boyz2Men.

(Brownsville – rolling on the river pic) Employees of the
Brownsville Utility Department and City Hall perform the Tina
Turner song, “Rolling on the River.”

(Hawkins pic) Assistant Principal Mr. Hawkins performs as one of
the Temptations.

These students wowed the crowd with their Jackson 5 performance.

Teacher Alexandria Seaton as Alecia Keys sang “Superwoman,”
accompanied by New Foundation

Sunny Hill teacher Dominick Bond played sax and sang “Change
Goin’ to Come” by Sam Cooke.
