The Standards entertain Sunny Hill students

The Standards, an award-winning vocal group from
Crossville, Tennessee, performed at Sunny Hill on September 11 to
the delight of students who had the opportunity to enjoyed a
variety of songs. Students were also able to meet the singers, ask
for autographs, and purchase CDs. During the program, The
Standards stressed drug awareness to the students.
How plants get water; watch it move

Students in Miss Picken’s science class at Sunny
Hill School observed how water and nutrients moved through the
stem of a plant. The class did this by looking at a stalk of
celery.
First students placed the celery in containers of
water with red food coloring.
Then later they witnessed how the celery had
changed. After cutting the
celery, they were able to see that the water had moved through the
stem.
They saw how parts of the stem and leaves had turned the same
color as
the water. The students loved the hands-on activity.
Students create plant and animal cells

Students in Mrs. Phillips’ science classes at Sunny
Hill School created models of plant and animal cells to reinforce
their learning experiences during the first six weeks. These two
kids show off their models of the cells.
Science of living things amazes students

Every living thing is made of one or more cells.
After learning the parts of the cell and their functions, Mrs.
Humphrey’s science classes ventured into the world of creativity.
Each student was asked to create his/her own edible plant or
animal cell. The students really stretched their imaginations by
using food items found at home to construct their cells.
The activity created a lot of excitement, fun, and
parental involvement. Mrs. Humphrey’s classes are eagerly looking
forward to their next adventure as they explore the world of
science.
Sunny Hill students “get acquainted”

Mrs. Denise Phillips’ social studies classes made
personality spheres as a
“get acquainted” activity. The students enjoyed getting the easy
100 for
the grade, as well as sharing cultural information with their
friends.
