Haywood County Schools participate in Relay for Life event

Haywood County Schools once again this year participated in the local American
Cancer Society Relay for Life event, with booths and various fundraisers.
Lots of students also dropped by to see their teachers and administrators.
Anderson kindergarten students don caps and gowns

What a big day for Anderson! Principal Jim Frazier welcomed a packed house on
Wednesday, May 19, for the kindergarten graduation program. Teacher Becky
Stokely sang “The Words I Would Say,” accompanied by her husband Bobby,
which brought smiles and tears from proud parents and grandparents. Mr. Jim
then read “As I grow please ...” which speaks to parents from a child’s
point of view, asking them to support them as they grow. Each teacher read
her students’ names as Mr. Jim and Assistant Principal Cindy Smith gave the
diplomas. “We are all so proud of these wonderful students and the hard work
they did this year,” Miss Cindy said. “Ninety-seven percent of the
kindergarten class was promoted, and 89 percent of them are reading with at
least 80 percent accuracy. Go Anderson!”

INSOUTH Bank treats local teachers

Representatives from INSOUTH Bank made the rounds in early May to all the
county’s schools delivering a “sweet treat” for all the teachers, in honor
of Teacher Appreciation Month. The teachers and administrators at Anderson,
Haywood Elementary, East Side, Sunny Hill, Haywood Junior High, Haywood
High, the Alternative Learning Center and at the Central office enjoyed
delicious carrot cakes, baked just for the wonderful job they do. The
teachers say, “Thank you, INSOUTH!” Delivering the cakes from INSOUTH were
Alan Callery, JoAnne Finn, Tim Stokely and Brenda Lee.
Anderson participates in Relay for Life

Anderson faculty and staff joined together to participate in the local ACS
Relay for Life Friday night, May 14. Their theme was “Compliments,” and they
used each class’s compliment chains to decorate the tent. Earlier in the
year, students in each class made “Compliment Chains” as part of learning
about good manners and good behavior.
“F” can be for “funny feet”

Mrs. Leslie Phillip’s class at Anderson has recently been learning the letter
“F.” One of their activities included everyone in the classes having “funny
feet.”
Anderson students learn about community helpers

Mrs. Connie Allen’s class has been learning about community helpers. Each
student has dressed up like the community helper he or she wants to be
someday. See if you can guess what they are. (Hint: One of them wants to be
a princess!!)
Anderson students “Rock and Roll”

Kindergarteners recently had the audience rocking and rolling at their spring
music program, which featured famous musicians from Tennessee, including
Tina Turner, Elvis Presley, Carl Perkins, Sleepy John Estes, Dolly Parton,
and more. Look out, American Idol!
We appreciate you!

Anderson administrators and faculty recently took a moment to let their
Administrative Secretaries and Instructional Assistants know how much they
appreciate them. Each day they received a treat and a note, ending with a
luncheon on Friday. They also enjoyed 30 minutes of relaxation when “The Spa
Lady” came to do relaxation sessions. The wonderful thing about our
secretaries and assistants is that each and every one has a very important
job to do, and they all “just do it!”

Anderson displays students’ talent

As is tradition at Anderson Early Childhood Center, students recently presented
the school’s annual art show for parents and other supporters. Displaying
their talent, they made pottery bowls and a ceramic fish. They also made
self-portraits and underwater scenes.
Students honored for achievement at Awards Pep Rally

Andy, Anderson’s mascot, gave lots of high fives to students who received
achievement recognition for reading, math, writing, good conduct and also
LOTS of Cub Cadets. This bicycle was given to one student who qualified for
the Principal’s Club. The Brownsville Rotary Club and the Brownsville Police
Department donated the bicycle. The last photo is of Mrs. Cheri Williams’
class, who won the Family Resource Center Reading Wall of Fame award.
